Education and training provisions for a growing learning community to facilitate the adoption and implementation of Real-World Evidence in clinical decision making

Education & Training

Legacy & Aims

The GetReal Academy is the education arm of GetReal Institute. We bring together a wide variety of stakeholders to drive the sustainable development and adoption of tools, methods and best practices in the generation and use of RWE for better clinical decision-making.

Since 2017, the Academy has focused on the delivery of two online courses, twice a year, RWE in Medicines Development and Structured Benefit–Risk Assessment of Medicinal Products, the former has had 10 iterations and is currently undergoing a refresh, while the latter course is currently available in a self-paced format.

We aim to build education and training provisions for the development of a learning community to facilitate the adoption and implementation of RWE in clinical decision making.

strategic objectives

Collaborative Learning Strategy

Over the next three years our focus will be on establishing a foundation upon which we can contribute to the RWE/D learning ecosystem and provide direction for the development of future educational content, curricula, courses, and programmes. Our core strategic objectives include:
Developing a RWD/E competency framework
Creating a self-assessment tool that will enable learners to identify where and how they can upskill
Developing a levelled education framework for learning products
Translating and communicating research insights to inform the development of education and training offerings
Establishing initiatives to engender connectivity to facilitate life-long learning, cross-functional collaboration, and enhance learning and research development

Working Group

Our Education and Skills Working Group’s purpose is to develop a dedicated RWE academy of excellence, a source of trusted, high quality RWE education and training, cultivating a community of RWE champions driving informed evidence-based choices in the domains of regulatory, HTA, and clinical decision-making.

Education Advisory Board

The working group acts in collaboration with the Education Advisory board, advising on all aspects of education, teaching, training, and community engagement relating to evidence generation, with a specific focus on Real-World Data and Evidence

Courses

This self-paced online course will provide an understanding of current techniques, opportunities and challenges for the creation of real-world data (RWD) to generate and use real-world evidence (RWE) for medicines in development.

The course consists of five self-paced chapters, addressing different aspects of RWD and RWE, and requires approximately 10-12 hours of input. This non-technical course is designed for those with some familiarity with medicines development and wish to broaden their expertise of this topic.

This course is designed and delivered in collaboration with Elevate

This self-paced course will provide an understanding of current techniques, opportunities and challenges of structured benefit-risk assessment, including different preference elicitation techniques. It is therefore intended for anyone who wishes to extend their knowledge on structured benefit-risk assessment with a specific focus on multi-criteria decision analysis, from prescribing physicians to industry, regulatory and other professionals.

The course consists of three self-paced learning units, starting with an introduction to benefit-risk, followed by learning units on decision making styles and multiple-criteria decision analysis.

Webinars

In this webinar, we discuss the impact of the MHRA RWD guidelines and NICE RWE Framework internationally, including the shaping and alignment with other Regulatory and HTA agencies, and whether the UK is well positioned to take a leading role in the advancement of real world data and evidence internationally.
